Take Your Training Further

Specialty Training: Do More With Your Dog

Once you’ve conquered foundation obedience skills…then what? Want to push your relationship further? Make it even stronger?

Then it’s time to learn a skill!

The more you and your dog do together, the better your relationship will be, and the more fun you will have. That’s why our diverse and talented trainers offer some continuing education outside of the realm of basic skills. Check out some of the cool things you can learn to do with your dog!

Most of the following are offered as Group Classes but we can also work with individuals in Private Lessons and Board & Train!

Canine Good Citizen Titles

All of our trainers on staff are AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluators, and we regularly host Canine Good Citizen group classes, as well as private training for CGC prep.

Offering Canine Good Citizen, CGC-A and CGC-U testing. We also require this test for all of our service dog, therapy dog, and bite work students!

Nose Work

Teaching a dog how to use his nose is a great way to provide mental stimulation, and it is also the base for many useful and fun skills! It can also be used to help hone a dog’s natural abilities, such as finding birds or other game animals. In a nose work program, we teach:

  • Imprinting the scent of the handler’s choice – this can be anything from competition scents like birch oil, to food allergen detection, to antler shed or morel mushroom hunting, and more!
  • Introduce an indicator behavior (How the dog tells us he found the scent!)
  • Introduce the “Search” cue with containers
  • Transition from container searches to “free” searches in multiple environments

Trick Training

Whether you’re just looking to challenge your dog’s brain or earn some titles (AKC Trick Dog) trick training is not only a fun way to build your skillset, but it has a positive impact on the rest of your dog’s training as well. Tricks teach dogs how to be better learners by learning behaviors that are not necessarily natural to them, and to problem-solve and sometimes chain multiple behaviors together.

So you want your dog to sit pretty? Play dead? Fetch a beer from the fridge? We can help you with that!

Adventure Skills

Are you an avid camper, backpacker, mountain biker, rollerblader, paddleboarder, horseback rider, or something else equally adventurous?

Do you want your dog to come along on these adventures? We can help you prepare!

From teaching dogs to run alongside a bike or a horse, to pulling you on skies, to riding a paddleboard, to carrying a backpack and having good camp skills, we can prepare you both to enjoy life together, wherever that may take you!

Customize!

Do you want to teach your dog something that you don’t see here? Just ask! If we can help you, we always love to take on new and unique challenges and projects!
